One of the best, "I need something light and funny to read" books I've come across in a long time. "The Devil Wears Prada meets The Great Race (1965) in a bite-sized, brain-candy read. Light, relatable, and just plain fun! Expect newfound respect, old flames, hairy cows, heavy luggage, and willful characters bridging a massive generational gap." - Humberto B
Cute story set in Orkney. Great Orkney color! I got a great sense of the Orkney customs & traditions. I loved Angus, the Highland sheep.
The food all sounded delicious. I look forward to trying it someday. - Carol C
This is a powerful story with so much love and devotion of a Family that Sticks Together no matter what Life throws at Them. Through Births and Deaths. Marriages, Joys and Heartaches. Triumphs and Failures, Ms. Jagger took me through many emotions.....Laughter, Tears, Rooting for each Character and Smiling when they succeeded. With a little tinge of Hatred creating one amazing work of art. "Mama Garcia's Salsa" is a must read. This book by Ann Jagger is now my favorite book. This is definitely a read again book. -- Joe B
Very intriguing and was very curious about the characters, especially Diane, Lois, Riley, and Maggie. True message: don’t make assumptions.
Loved the twists and turns that got us to a very unexpected ending.
Highly recommend. -- Molly A
I loved this book because it reinforces the idea that good friends can be bound together as closely, if not more so, than family. The lifelong friendship and love shared by these two boys/men is poignant but also positive. The unfailing love of a friend searching for his lost “brother” was so strong and survived so many struggles, it was an inspiration for me. In today’s world of people moving from place to place and having transient friendships, it is heartening to be reminded of the real bond of love between true friends.
This multi-generational saga kept my interest riveted with a story line that had surprise twists and turns. The ending was truly a surprise! This is the kind of book that makes you feel better after reading it. We need to be reminded from time to time that love, generosity and goodness can transcend life’s hardships and the ravages of time. I highly recommend this book.

Ann Jagger’s short story tells a tale of zany, but relatable, situations with characters you surely have met in real life. There are laugh-out-loud moments, generational misunderstandings, and unique schemes packed into a fun read. Enjoy! - Diana H
